HSC is a highly effective system of personal problem-solving and guidance for those who wish to use the methods for themselves or professionally for others. Harner Shamanic Counseling originated in the early 1980s by Michael Harner based on his earlier devised core shamanism.
Throughout this 1:1 training, the client becomes a practitioner of divinatory shamanism for themselves, with the help and guidance of the shamanic counselor in ordinary reality. One of the features of Harner Shamanic Counseling (HSC) is that the real shamanic counselors are in a non-ordinary reality, where the client learns to journey. These are wise teachers whom the client encounters during their shamanic journeys and who provide answers to the client’s questions. The HSC counselor, in ordinary reality, provides guidance, instruction, orientation, and methodological advice based on core shamanism and their extensive practice with shamanic journeying. HSC uses electronically provided sonic driving to alter the state of consciousness of the client to go “outside of time” or to non-ordinary reality, to utilize ancient shamanic problem-solving methods. The client is trained in and practices the Harner-originated method of simultaneous narration and recording of the shamanic journey to amplify the quality of experience and have a complete set of recorded journeys for future reference. Through their repeated experiences in non-ordinary reality while shamanic journeying, clients develop their abilities to obtain practical and helpful answers to important personal questions, grow connections with helping spirits, and, with practice, create ease of journeying for themselves. With this, clients commonly experience growth in confidence and often report personal transformation. Since HSC is a spiritual system, it has nothing to do with psychology or psychiatry, and the HSC counselor is simply an instructor in the methods who articulates the concepts and practices of shamanism with patience and compassion.
After completing HSC, the client may attend Kerri’s free monthly journey circle. If you have completed FSS The Way of the Shaman or FSS The Shamanic Journey, which are different methods of journey instruction, you also have the experience needed to attend the free monthly journey circle.
